Two years!!! How have we been open for TWO years?!! Time flies when your having fun I guess!

Running a business is really hard. There are always a million things on the To-Do List and never enough hours in the day. You have to worry about if you forgot to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner…all while being a parent, a wife, a friend, dog mom…its definitely challenging to balance.

2022 was another big year for us at Jewels and Jems Furniture Redesigns. We refinished 60+ pieces of furniture; our new service of refinishing cabinets had us refinishing 8 kitchens and 1 bathroom since May and we slowed down on the workshops this year to give ourselves more time to focus on other projects. Oh and we had SIX new puppies, moved to a new house and we relocated the store to a new space. Took a trip to Calgary. Met Jennylynn Pringle – Founder of Fusion Mineral Paint. One of the puppies was in a tragic accident at her new home and passed away and we recently lost our Jemma unexpectedly. She was the true definition of living life to the fullest and even though we only got 3 years with her, we have memories to last us a lifetime.

I couldn’t have done any of this if it wasn’t for my right hand lady Dorothy. She is up for anything…climbing on cupboards, painting upside down, random road trips, wiping paint out of my hair when she drops a paint brush in it (yes that really did happen!)

My son who has the best eye for colour and has even refinished a few pieces on his own, my husband for putting up with all my crazy ideas and letting me run with them, the downtown business community in Estevan who have been so supportive and inclusive, Community Futures Sunrise for being such an amazing business support to the Southeast and hosting so many informative and educational programs for business owners.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient and support small local businesses.
